Ceramic
PTC
Ceramic PTC thermistor possesses a very low resistance at the room
temperature, but its resistance will rapidly jump by 1000 ~ 10000000
of its normal value when its temperature exceeds its Curie point.
This characteristic has been widely used in the electronic design
for circuit protection. When the heat generated by the through current
warms up the thermistor to its curie point, the resistance of the
thermistor will considerably increase and this change will protect
the circuit from over current damaging. The PTC thermistor will recover
when the default is removed.
Applications
For overcurrent protection
For motor start
For degasussing
For heater
SURGE
PROTECTOR (THYRISTOR)
Thyristor protectors are solid state crowbar devices especially designed
to protect sensitive telecommunication equipment against lighting
strikes and other transient overvoltage. Advantages of Thyristors
protectors include their fast response time, stable electrical characteristics,
long term reliability, and low capacitance. Also because the protectors
are crowbar devices, they can not be damages by voltage and they extremely
high surge current rating.
Features
Crowbar protection
Fast response time
Stable electrical characteristics
Crowbar protection
Low capacitance
Applications
XDSL (ADSL, VDSL, IDSL)
T-1/E-1 ports
Telephone, Facsimile
Electronic Apparatus & Instrument
Switches and MDF
DATA line
ISDN
CATV
Polymer
PTC
The traditional fuses as a circuit protection device work one time
and must be replaced. Polymer resettable fuse are made of polymeric
PTC materials which is a matrix of polymer containing dispersed conductive
particles. Generally, the device has a very low resistance. If an
over current happened, as a response to the damage current, the resistance
will immediately increase to a very high level, reducing the current
in the circuit to a safe value that the loading can carry. Once fault
to the circuit is removed and power is recuperated, the polymer will
deflate itself, the device automatically reset and is ready for normal
operation.
Features
Hold current and trip current waned with temperature increase.
A larger current or a higher temperature means a faster trip time.
Applications
NiCd cells, NiMH cells, Primary lithium cells and rechargeable
lithium cells are sensitive to faults that cause over-current/over-temperature
conditions, such as the accidental shorting of cell terminals,
abusive charging. The Polymer Resettable Fuse internal to each
cell help provide effective protection.
